Telangana: Student Beaten, Forced To Chant 'Allah Hu Akbar', 'Jai Mata Di', FIR Registered

The student was thrashed by around 15-20 individuals for allegedly making some derogatory remark against Prophet Mohammed.

Telangana police on Saturday booked some students for allegedly ragging a student in a hostel room of IBS College. The students have also been booked for attempt to murder. The case was registered after the victim approached the police complaining of being harassed by 15-20 individuals in his hostel room on –campus.   

“On Nov 1, a few students of ICFAI Business School thrashed a student in the campus hostel room for his alleged comments against Prophet Mohammed. He was made to raise slogans of 'Jai Mata Di' and 'Allah Hu Akbar'. Case registered under TS Prohibition of Ragging Act,” SHO Shankarpally, as quoted by ANI.  

Police said, “The victim student has filed a complaint stating that he was physically and sexually harassed by 15-20 individuals in his hostel room on campus. FIR registered u/s 307, 323, 450, 342, 506 r/w 34 IPC, Sec4 (i)(ii) of Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act.”  

The matter came to light when the video of the incident went viral on social media. In the video, some students can be seen thrashing the victim for allegedly making a derogatory remark against Prophet Mohammed. The boys can be heard forcing him to say ‘Allah Hu Akbar’ while some said, ‘will fix his ideology, beat him to coma’.

The accused also recorded the video and shared it on social media.   

BJP State General Secretary from Andhra Pradesh tweeted the video along with the screenshot of a complaint letter written by the victim to the college authorities.   

In the said letter, the victim stated that around 15-20 individuals barged into his hostel room on November 1 and started beating him. He alleged that the individuals demanded to see his phone and chats. He also accused another student of the college of sharing the screenshot of his messages with these people. Naming the student, he said she should be blamed for his predicament as he sent her messages via private text on October 14.
