'My head hangs in shame':CM Mehbooba on TN tourist killed in Kashmir stone pelting
“Without a sustained, meaningful dialogue & outreach, not just from the govt but from the entire country, J&K will get pushed deeper into this vortex of gloom. My deepest condolences to the deceased’s family & my prayers go out to the girl who was injured in the same incident,” her accompanying tweet read.
Srinagar: In a highly deplorable incident, a 22-year-old tourist from Tamil Nadu died here last evening when a mob went on the rampage near Narbal on the outskirts of the city. R Thirumani, a resident of Chennai, came under attack of heavy stone pelting and suffered head injuries.
The tourist was taken to the SKIMS hospital at Soura, where he succumbed to injuries, a police official told news agency PTI. A case was registered and investigations have been taken up in the matter, the official said.
On the killing of the tourist, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said, "My head hangs in shame."
"It is very sad and heartbreaking", Mehbooba said after meeting family of tourist killed in Srinagar.
She again condemned the incident through her Twitter handle this morning.“Its truly heartbreaking when a family saves for years to realise their dream of visiting Kashmir & while they are here they face their worst nightmare. I have no words strong enough to condemn this tragic incident or even begin to condole the family.”
Opposition NC Working President Omar Abdullah also said yesterday, "We've killed a tourist by throwing stones at the vehicle he was travelling in. Let's try and wrap our heads around the fact that we stoned a tourist, a guest, to death while we glorify these stone pelters & their methods."
“This young man from Chennai died in my constituency & while I don’t support these goons, their methods or their ideology I’m deeply, deeply sorry that this happened at all & that too in an area I’ve been proud to represent since 2014,” his another tweet read.
The former chief minister prayed for the recovery of a woman injured the stone pelting. "I'm also pained to know that among the injured from the stone pelting in Narbal is a young woman from Handwara in North Kashmir. I pray she & the others injured make a quick recovery," Abdullah tweeted. The J&K Govt has failed, the CM has failed, the BJP-PDP alliance has failed. How much blood will have to be shed in Kashmir before the Hon PM realises the gravity of the situation in J&K? When will enough finally be enough?
