Congress, I.N.D.I.A 'Insulted' Parliament And 'Embarrassed' The Nation: BJP On Suspension Of MPs

Goyal told reporters that opposition members carried banners and purposefully interrupted parliamentary operations, despite a previous determination that placards would not be permitted in the Houses.

With 92 opposition members suspended from both Houses in the last five days, the BJP blamed the Congress and its partners for "insulting" the Lok Sabha speaker and Rajya Sabha chairman and "embarrassing" the country. Piyush Goyal, Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, informed reporters that opposition members carried banners and purposefully interrupted parliamentary operations, despite a previous determination that placards would not be permitted in the Houses.

Speaking with media, Goyal stated: "The rude behaviour of the Congress and its friendly partners of INDIA alliance in both the Houses of Parliament today, and the manner in which several members brought placards in the House, it has embarrassed the entire country. Both the Speaker and the Chairman were insulted today. Lok Sabha Speaker had to suspend 33 MPs today and 34 MPs in the Rajya Sabha had to suspended. 11 other MPs have been suspended till the Privileges Committee doesn't decide on their case of bringing placards in the House."

"I believe this was their (opposition's) pre-planned strategy; they didn't want the House to function since very important legislations to be introduced in the Lok Sabha," he further stated.

On suspension of opposition MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, BJP MP Ashok Bajpai stated: "Despite the request from the Chairman, they (opposition MPs) did not allow the House to conduct the Question Hour and Zero Hour and hold debates. The way they were raising slogans and showing placards is against decorum of the House."

Thirty-three opposition members were suspended from the Lok Sabha, including Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, T R Baalu, and Sougata Ray, for carrying banners and chanting chants in protest of the Parliament security violation.

While 30 members of the DMK, TMC, Congress, and IUML, JD(U), and RSP were suspended for the duration of the Winter session, three other Congress members were suspended awaiting the Privileges Committee's findings.

The opposition MPs halted the House proceedings, seeking a comment on the topic from Home Minister Amit Shah.

For disturbing the proceedings, 13 opposition MPs were suspended from the Lok Sabha and one from the Rajya Sabha last week.

Soon after the suspension of 33 MPs was announced, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day.

A total of 45 opposition MPs were suspended from the Rajya Sabha.
