The mela is being organised after a gap of two years in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

New Delhi: The Surajkund International Crafts Mela is all set to attract tourists this year.

The mela is being organised after a gap of two years in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thousands of craft lovers are eagerly waiting for the inauguration of this mela on March 19.

Jammu and Kashmir is the theme partner of the event, while Uzbekistan is the partner country for this season.

Jammu and Kashmir Tourism and Culture Secretary Sarmad Hafeez took stock of the preparations regarding the event at Surajkund, Haryana.

He said that the mela would showcase the architectural depiction of a Kashmiri house, houseboat, front facade of Mubarak Mandi, Bache Darwaza and Cheshmashahi, which would reflect the grandeur of Jammu and Kashmir.

In addition, there will be a live demonstration of six different crafts of Jammu and Kashmir in the establishment of Khankhah-e-Moula.

Jammu and Kashmir Handicrafts and Handloom Director Mehmood Ahmad Shah, who also took stock of the event, said there will be a scintillating fashion show by Zubair Kirmani along with the cultural programs that will go on throughout the day.

He added that there would be special cultural programmes on March 22 and April 4.

Various government departments like tourism, industry and commerce, khadi village industries, JKI, agriculture, horticulture and JKTDC will also participate in this mela.

The fair will have bar-coded passes for entry and tickets can be booked from Paytm.

The cost of tickets for weekdays has been kept at Rs 120 and Rs 180 for weekends.

The children from government schools will be given free entry to the fair and 50 percent relaxation in ticket prices will be given to the differently-abled.

The annual event, which is known for its pop of colours, crafts and a vibrant display of culture, was last held in 2020 in Faridabad before the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
