Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take note of the issues flagged in a letter filed by father of the rape and murder victim at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The top court observed, that many of the concerns raised by the victim's father have already been addressed in the fresh and confidential status report placed before the top court by the CBI, however, the CJI DY Chandrachud led bench asked the CBI to look into all the concerns raised by the victim's father in his letter to the court.
The top court said that the father of the deceased has made some suggestions on the leads that should be taken for investigation and the court is not making it public, but will say that these are valuable inputs and CBI should look into this. The court was refering to a September 12 letter by the father of the victim.
CJI Chandrachud led bench further asked the counsel to send a message across to the parents, "please be assured...CBI has flagged most of the issued adresses in the letter in its status report."
What CBI Has Revealed Is Worse And Disturbing, Says Supreme Court
The Supreme Court after going through the fresh status report by CBI today, refrained from saying anything on the line of investigation. The top court said that making any disclosure on what the CBI is investigating will jeopardise the process, and said that the line which is taken by the CBI is to unearth the absolute truth.
"We are not making a detailed comment so that it should not put someone who is in doubt to guards themselves...please be assured CBI has flagged all of this in the status report." the bench said.
The top court said that CBI has responded to the manner in which post mortem of the victim was done and addressed the doubts expressed on non-filling of form needed before the post mortem is carried out.
The top court said that the CBI has also looked into the role of not only those arrested but those who are complicit to the case.
It further added that several important evidence has been obtained on the basis of the letter written by victim's father to the CBI, which raised several issues. The bench noted that the CBI is handicapped by the delay of 5 days in commencing investigation, but said the agency must look into all aspects.
When a counsel pointed out the shoddy manner in which the body was sent for post-mortem and samples seized, the CJI Chandrachud led bench said, "What the CBI has revealed is worse and disturbing. We are ourselves disturbed by it."
Senior doctors also alleged that the financial irregularities at RG Kar hospital is intricately linked to the rape-murder incident. The top court then directed the CBI to file status report on probe into both the rape-murder as well as financial irregularities on the next date.
In addition to the rape and murder, the CBI is also investigating former principal of RG Kar Sandip Ghosh and others in relation to the crime and alleged financial irregularities in the hospital under their watch.
Parents Must Be Informed About The Progress In Investigation
Senior Advocate Indira Jaising appearing for the junior doctors placed in a sealed envelop names of persons who were on the scene of the crime and had no business to be there.
Advocate Vrinda Grover told the top court that parents had accompanied the CBI to carry out investigation and amidst lot of information swirling they do not know what to believe.
SG Tushar Mehta appearing for CBI said that he agrees that as parents they must be informed and this is the minimum an investigating agency should do for the girl who has been raped and killed.
The Supreme Court in the previous hearing had directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a fresh report in the Kolkata rape-murder case after the central probe agency raised suspicion over the forensic report in the case. Today, the CBI filed a confidential status report on the progress of investigation into the case to the Supreme Court.
