The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of three High Court judges to different High Courts, news agency ANI reported. Justice Gaurang Kanth of Delhi High Court has been recommended for transfer to Calcutta High Court by the Collegium through its resolution passed on July 12. The SC Collegium also recommended the transfer of Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh from Allahabad High Court to the High Court of Kerala. Justice Manoj Bajaj of Punjab & Haryana High Court has been recommended to the High Court of Allahabad.
This comes after two high court chief justices were on Wednesday elevated as judges of the apex court. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments of judges Ujjal Bhuyan and S Venkatanarayana Bhatti on Twitter.

The names of Justice Bhuyan, the chief justice of the Telangana High Court, and Justice Bhatti, his counterpart in Kerala, were recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on July 5. A Collegium resolution stated that while making its recommendations the collegium took the seniority of chief justices and senior puisne judges in their respective parent high courts into consideration as well as the overall seniority of the HC judges, news agency PTI reported.
The merit, performance, and integrity of the judges under consideration were taken into account as well as the need to ensure diversity and inclusion in the Supreme Court with the representation of high courts which are not represented or are inadequately represented in the top court, the appointment of persons from marginalised and backward segments of society, gender diversity as well as representation of minorities, PTI's report mentioned.
The Supreme Court has a sanctioned strength of 34 judges, including the chief justice, but is functioning with 30. Once the two judges take their oath, the working strength of the apex court will go up to 32, leaving two vacancies.
