'Sulli Deals' App Creator Aumkareshwar Thakur Sent To 4-Day Police Custody

On Sunday, he was apprehended by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) squad of the Delhi Police.

New Delhi: The alleged mastermind behind the 'Sulli Deals' app, Aumkareshwar Thakur, has been sent to police custody for four days by court, the police informed on Sunday.

On Sunday, he was arrested by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) squad of the Delhi Police.

Thakur had written the code for Sulli Deals on GitHub, according to investigators.

The accused had joined a Twitter group (Trademahasabha) where members discussed online harassment of Muslim women, which led to the development of 'Sulli Deals.'

Thakur is the creator of the app. However, after widespread outrage over the app, Thakur apparently erased all of his social media accounts.

First Arrest In Sulli Deals App Case

Officials reported earlier in the day that the accused had been arrested in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, by the Delhi Police.

This is the first arrest in the "Sulli Deals" app case.

Hundreds of Muslim women were photographed without permission and doctored and put up for auction on the smartphone app.

Thakur earned his BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) from the IPS Academy in Indore and is a Newyork City Township resident, according to authorities.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that he was a part of a Twitter group where the notion to slander and troll Muslim women was conveyed, according to Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) KPS Malhotra.
