‘Highlighted Urgency To PMO': Congress's Karti Chidambaram Calls For Stray Dog Task Force After Bizman's Death

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram calls for a stray dog task force after businessman Parag Desai succumbed to injury on his head after he fell near his residence following an attack by street dogs.

Congress leader Karti Chidambaram called for a national task force to deal with the issue of stray dogs in the country. The Congress MP said that he highlighted the seriousness and urgency of the matter to the Prime Minister’s Office adding that a scientific and ethical approach is needed to address the issue.

Chidambaram’s call for action comes in the context of the tragic death of Wagh Bakri Tea Group executive director Parag Desai who died after suffering a brain haemorrhage. According to media reports Desai reportedly succumbed to an injury on his head after he fell near his residence following an attack by street dogs on October 15.

“We need a national task force to deal with the #StrayDogs issue immediately. An ethical & scientific approach is needed. Expecting inadequately equipped local administration authorities to deal with this is pointless. I have highlighted the seriousness & urgency to the @PMOIndia,” said Chidambaram in a post on X.

Desai, 50, suffered  severe brain haemorrhage after falling on a hard surface while going for a walk outside his residence, the company said in an official statement.

"Desai fell and suffered a brain haemorrhage, and fainted. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital, and from there to another hospital where he underwent brain surgery. He was kept under observation. He breathed his last at around 7 pm on Sunday," said the official who is close to the Desai family, as per a PTI report.

Shalby Hospital in Ahmedabad, where Desai was shifted after the fall, issued a statement saying "When the patient was brought to the facility in an unconscious state, it was stated that he fell after being chased by dogs, but apparently there were no dog bite marks on his body".

"When the patient was brought to the hospital at around 6 pm (on October 15), he was unconscious and not responding. A CT scan revealed acute subdural hematoma with bilateral frontal contusion. Desai was admitted to the ICU and advised to be kept under observation and treatment for 72 hours," it said.
