St. Petersburg: 'Invite private sector in Russia, India to play even more active role' says PM Modi

New Delhi: After signing five key agreements with Russia in St. Petersburg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where he spoke about Indo-Russia ties.

• Energy cooperation is a major area of our ties including cooperation in renewable and nuclear power: PM
• We invite the private sector in Russia and India to play an even more active role to boost economic relations between our nations: PM
• PM also spoke about the defence ties between the two countries and said, "Our defence ties are very strong"
• I hope Russia will mark Yoga Day on 21st June with great enthusiasm
• India and Russia are cooperating extensively in various multi lateral forums like the BRICS and G-20: PM
• Our talks with add new strength and momentum to India-Russia relations: PM

Modi is in to St. Petersburg for an annual meeting with Putin amid rising differences over their approach to Afghanistan's ongoing war, and unease in New Delhi over Russia's deepening ties with Pakistan and its tighter embrace of China. On his arrival here, Modi tweeted, "Reached the historic city of St Petersburg. Looking forward to a fruitful visit aimed at cementing India-Russia relations."
