'The Sorrow Was Very Deep': Sonia Gandhi About Coping After Rajiv Gandhi's Death. WATCH

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate shared a video clip in which a group of women farmers can be seen interacting with Sonia and Priyanka Gandhi. Watch the video here.

In a video clip shared by Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate on Sunday, a group of women farmers from Haryana can be seen interacting with Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi during their visit to New Delhi. The women, who had come to meet the Congress leaders, posed a poignant question to Sonia Gandhi about how she managed after the assassination of her husband, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

"How did you manage in that situation after Rajiv ji's death?" one of the women inquired. To this, Sonia Gandhi responded with a simple yet heartfelt answer, "The sorrow was very deep," unable to speak further. Priyanka Gandhi then added, "She (Sonia) neither ate nor drank anything for many days."

Another woman expressed her empathy, saying, "She must have gone through many difficulties… May God bless everyone." Sonia Gandhi nodded in acknowledgement in the video clip.

In a tweet, Shrinate reflected on Sonia Gandhi's life journey, noting how she entered the public domain "at the age of 21 as Rajiv ji's wife and the daughter-in-law of the nation. She spent 55 years of her life dedicated to this country, with 23 years as Rajiv ji's wife."

Shrinate admired Sonia's "resilience as a widow for the past 32 years and marveled at her dignified and compassionate demeanor despite enduring so much pain."

Sonia Gandhi hosted the lunch meeting at her residence, and Rahul Gandhi was also present during the interaction.

Take A Look At The Video Here:

On July 8, Rahul Gandhi made an unplanned stop in Sonipat's Madina village, where he interacted with locals and spent time with farmers working in the fields. He engaged in activities such as paddy sowing, driving a tractor, and sharing a meal brought by women workers working in the fields.

During the visit, Rahul Gandhi promised the farm women that he would invite them to Delhi for a 'Delhi Darshan,' despite the fact that they lived nearby.

Rahul Gandhi followed through on his promise, and the farmer sisters from Sonipat were invited to Delhi. In a video of the meeting, the Gandhis are seen laughing with the rural women and offering them lunch. Rahul Gandhi also gave chocolates to the visiting children and girls, adding to the festive atmosphere.
