The country's youth were given the mantra of "Skilling, Reskilling, and Upskilling" by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday as he urged them to innovate and constantly update their abilities in accordance with the changing times.

PM Modi was addressing Kaushal Dikshant Samaroh. It is a unique programme that celebrates the industrious efforts of all those who toil hard for India's progress.

Government's Focus On Improvement Of Skills

He said that the Centre will launch more than 5,000 new "Skill Hubs," in order to support skill development. The prime minister emphasised that as technology advances, job prospects in the nation are also increasing in a virtual speech to students at the first-ever convocation of (industrial training institutions) ITI students.

While emphasising on students keeping an eye out for any development in their respective fields to keep up with time, he said: "You will have to upgrade your skills in line with the future. Therefore your mantra should be Skilling, Reskilling and Upskilling."

"Today, a new history has been written. For the first time, a 'Kaushal Dikshant Samaroh' for more than 9 lakh ITI students has been organized... Nation is again emphasising on skill development. We've to ensure our youth excels not only in studies but also skills," he further added.

Development of ITIs

The Prime Minister noted that nearly 5,000 new ITIs have been opened in the nation over the course of his government's tenure in the last eight years, while also noting that the first ITI was established in 1950 and that approximately 10,000 ITIs have been opened in the country over the course of the past seven decades.

According to him, over 4 lakh seats have been added to the Institutes during this time, and the New Education Policy also promotes experience-based learning.

PM Modi said: "You all are witnessing how India is taking a lead today in the fields of renewable energy, solar power, electric vehicles. Introduction of courses related to these areas in several ITIs will further facilitate job seekers."
