Shraddha Murder Case: Police Vehicle Carrying Accused Aftab Attacked By Men With Swords In Delhi
The group of sword-wielding men claimed to be from an outfit called Hindu Sena.
A police van carrying Aftab Poonawalla, accused of murdering his partner Shraddha Walkar and chopping her body into pieces, was attacked by a group of people carrying swords in Delhi's Rohini area on Monday. Police have detained two persons, who claimed to be from an outfit called Hindu Sena, for attacking the vehicle.
The incident happened when Aftab was being taken to jail from the Forensic Science Laboratory in west Delhi's Rohini after his polygraph test. The group of people also pelted stones at the police van.
Five policemen were present in the police van with Aftab, including a sub-inspector, when the attack took place. After the attack, a police officer came out of the vehicle and brandished his gun to bring the situation under control.
One of the persons who attacked the van said, "He (Aftab) killed our sister and chopped her into 35 pieces. Take him (Aftab) out for two minutes, I will kill him."
However, Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Sharma distanced the outfit from the attack. "The murder of Shraddha has enraged every citizen. We have nothing to do with the attackers," Vishnu Sharma told ABP Live.
A case has been registered at the Prashant Vihar Police Station in connection with the incident.
Aftab allegedly strangled Shraddha Walkar in May and chopped her body into 35 pieces. He kept the pieces in a 300-litre fridge for almost a month at his residence in south Delhi's Mehrauli before dumping them across the city over several days.
