Section 144 Imposed In Mumbai; Check New Travel Rules & What All Remain Exempted From Restrictions

The prohibitory order, issued by a senior police official, says restrictions on movement of residents for non- essential work will remain in force till July 15.

Maharashtra lockdown: Amid the alarming spike in the spread of Coronavirus cases in country’s financial capital Mumbai, Commissioner of Police Pranaya Ashok has imposed Section 144, prohibiting any presence or movement of one or more persons in public places or gathering of any sort anywhere, including religious places subject to certain conditions. The order prohibits "presence or movement of one or more persons in public places or gathering of any sort", the official said. All movement of one or more persons in the areas designated as Containment Zone by the Municipal Authorities is prohibited except for essential activities, supply goods and medical emergencies. List of exempted activities:
  1. Emergency Services
  2. Government / semi- government agencies and their officials on duty
  3. Establishments providing Essential services like:
  • Food, vegetables, milk supplies, ration and grocery stores
  •  Hospitals, medicines, pharma and related establishments, pathologies, laboratories, medical, nursing colleges
  • Telephone and internet services
  • Electricity, petroleum, oil and energy related
  • Banking, stock exchange, Clearing Corporations, Depositories, Stock Brokers and SEBI registered participants operating through these institutions
  • IT and IT enabled Services and Data Centers providing services for Critical National and International Infrastructure and needed for the above essential and emergency services
  • Media
  • Ports
  • Services providing Home Delivery of groceries and essential commodities
  • E-commerce activity for essential and as well as non-essential items and material
  • Drinking water supply and maintenance
  • Godowns and warehousing related to all of the above
