EC Announces By-Elections To Six Rajya Sabha Seats, Voting To Be Held On October 4
Election Commission of India will hold Rajya Sabha by-polls for six seats - one each in West Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra & Madhya Pradesh & two seats in Tamil Nadu on October 4.
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced the schedule for the by-election for the 6 casual vacancies in the Rajya Sabha. The states for which the by-polls have been announced are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, and Madhya Pradesh.
The press release by the Election Commission revealed that the issue of notification will be on September 15, 2021, while the last date till candidates can file their nominations is September 22.
The by-polls will be conducted for 6 seats - one each in West Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra & Madhya Pradesh & two seats in Tamil Nadu and the voting will be conducted on October 4.
The last date for withdrawal of the candidature is September 27, 2021.
The counting of votes will be done on the election day, October 5, 2020, till 5 pm.
The Election Commission has said that polls shall be complete by October 6, 2021.
In addition, By-polls for an Assembly Council seat in Bihar is to be held on the same day.
Biennial elections to RS seat from Puducherry which fell vacant due to the retirement of sitting MP N Gokulakrishnan is also scheduled on October 4.
In Tamil Nadu, by-elections are being held to fill the vacancies caused by the resignations of AIADMK members K P Munusamy and R Vaithhilingam following their election to the state legislative assembly
