Rajnath takes on Akhilesh Govt. over NIA officer's killing

Lucknow: Expressing grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh in wake of the killing of NIA Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tanzil in Bijnor district last night, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said that a central team was probing the matter and would very soon submit a comprehensive report very. "I have spoken to the officers concerned. Our teams have gone there to probe the matter and they will submit a comprehensive report very soon," Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function here. "I understand that there is a need to take care of law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh and I hope that the state government would strive to control criminals," he stated. Mohammad Tanzil was on his way back from the marriage ceremony of his niece, along with his wife and two children, when two armed bike-borne assailants shot at him and his wife at a village falling under Syohra Police Station in Bijnor district. The NIA officer died on the spot, while his wife was rushed to Fortis Hospital in Noida where her condition is stated to be critical. A total of 21 bullets were pumped into the body, of which 12 have been recovered, nine pierced through the body, while three bullets missed the target leaving just scratch marks on the body, said Dr. N.K. Sharma, a medical officer at the Moradabad Jail, who was present during the post-mortem. NIA IG Sanjiv Kumar Singh said Mohd Tanzil was killed in a planned attack, adding that the U.P. Police, STF and ATS are investigating the matter.
