The Congress also suspended its Surat Lok Sabha candidate Nilesh Kumbhani whose nomination form for the constituency was rejected by the Election Commission of India.

The grand old party also suspended its Surat Lok Sabha candidate Nilesh Kumbhani as Congress alleged that he either “mixed up with the BJP” or was “completely careless”. His nomination form for the Surat constituency was rejected by the Election Commission of India.
“The rejection of your nomination form makes it evident that you were either extremely negligent or had affiliations with the BJP. However, in accordance with the principles of natural justice, the disciplinary committee provided you with sufficient time to present your case before it. Your sudden disappearance without providing any explanation to the party has led to the decision to suspend you for six years,” his suspension order signed by Balubhai Patel, member of the disciplinary committee, stated.
The Congress’s disciplinary committee said its decision to grant Nilesh Kumbhani a party ticket for the Lok Sabha elections was because they expected he would advocate for the substantial population of Patidar community members from Saurashtra who had resettled in Surat.
“People of Surat and party workers have become very angry due to your action and are expressing their anger in different ways. The Congress party has decided to suspend you for six years from the party,” the party said in a statement.
Kumbhani, a former corporator hailing from Surat, previously contested the 2022 Assembly polls from Kamrej in Surat city but was unsuccessful.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Congress took disciplinary action against its Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, suspending him for alleged anti-party activities. Chaudhary's suspension came in response to his remarks against the party's Jalandhar candidate and former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
