Maharia served in the Lok Sabha three times. The BJP did not give him a ticket in 2014 after he was defeated in the 2009 elections. In the 2019, he ran on a Congress ticket against the BJP.

Congress leader and former Union minister Subhash Maharia joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and claimed that the Rajasthan government led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has failed to deliver on its promises, while corruption has grown, in addition to Maharia, retired IPS officer Ramdev Singh Khariwa, retired IAS officer P R Meena, retired IPS officers Gopal Meena, Narsi Kirad, and Hemant Sharma joined the BJP at its state headquarters in Jaipur.

Maharia, who was a member of the BJP before joining the Congress, expressed joy at being reunited with his family. "We will make history in the assembly elections in Rajasthan in 2023 and the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. We will try to increase the BJP's vote percentage in the Sikar region by 20%," he was quoted as saying by PTI.

He also stated that he will fulfil any responsibilities assigned to him by the party. Maharia slammed the Rajasthan government, claiming that Congress has failed to keep its election promises and that corruption has grown under its rule.

BJP's Rajasthan in-charge Arun Singh said corruption is at an all-time high in Rajasthan, law and order has deteriorated, and people are fed up with the state government, which is why several prominent Congress leaders have joined the BJP.

In a tweet, Arun Singh said: "In protest against Congress's false promises, corruption, Jungle Raj and inspired by Prime Minister Modi's poor welfare schemes, Congress' mass base leader, former MP, and former Union Minister Subhash Mahariya joined BJP believing in five principles," he tweeted in Hindi.

"In Congress, people are fighting each other, and people are fed up." Its leaders are accepting the BJP's ideology," he stated, PTI reported.
