Prithvi Shaw Selfie Row: Influencer Sapna Gill Sent To 4-Day Police Custody

Following an incident between social media influencer Sapna Gill and her friend, Prithvi Shaw was allegedly manhandled & his car was damaged with a baseball bat outside a hotel in Mumbai's Santacruz.

A court in Mumbai on Friday remanded social media influencer Sapna Gill in police custody till February 20 for allegedly manhandling Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and attacking his car after a disagreement over selfies, news agency PTI reported.

The incident occurred early Wednesday morning outside a luxury hotel in Santacruz's suburbs, following an argument between Shaw, the social media influencer, and her male friend after the player refused to take photographs with her.

On Thursday evening, Gill was detained, and complaints were filed against her friend Shobhit Thakur and six others for alleged rioting and extortion.

According to the complaint, Thakur and Gill approached Shaw at the hotel for a selfie. At first, the cricketer agreed. But they insisted on taking more selfies, which Shaw refused. Gill and Thakur allegedly began bickering and misbehaving with him after that.

The allegation further stated that both of them (Gill and Thakur) was inebriated.

Gill is a social media influencer with over 2 lahks Instagram followers and an online presence on apps such as Josh, a video-sharing app, Snapchat, and YouTube. She is from Chandigarh and currently resides in Mumbai.

Shaw and Yadav had dinner at the hotel after this incident. When they came out, Thakur was clutching a baseball bat in his hand. The accused then proceeded to smash the car's windscreen. Gill was also rough on Shaw. The player was transferred to another vehicle as Yadav and others drove his car to Oshiwara, as per the reports.

Yadav noticed that three motorcyclists and a white automobile were pursuing their vehicle. At 4 a.m., the chasers ambushed his car as it made a U-turn outside a gas station on Link Road, news agency ANI reported.

According to the report, Thakur was one among those chasing the vehicle and used a bat to smash its windscreen. Six people on motorbikes, as well as Gill and Thakur, who were also in a car, abused Yadav and his friends. Yadav then drove the car to the Oshiwara police station.

Thakur, one of them, used the baseball bat to smash the rear windscreen of the car. Six others on motorcycles, along with Gill and Thakur in the vehicle, abused Yadav and those with him. Yadav then drove the automobile to the Oshiwara police station, as stated in the report.

According to police, the eight accused followed Yadav to the station and blackmailed him into paying Rs 50,000 to resolve the dispute or else she will file a fake police report against them. Yadav then filed a complaint against the accused. Based on the complaint, Oshiwara Police filed a case under Indian Criminal Code (IPC) sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting), 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), and others.
