Indian Coast Guard is a multi-mission organization, conducting round-the-year real-life operations at sea. Despite being relatively small, it has a wide range of task capabilities for both surface and air operations.
The organization is headed by the Director-General Indian Coast Guard (DGICG) exercising his overall command and superintendence from the Coast Guard Headquarters (CGHQ) located in New Delhi.
From a modest beginning with just seven surface platforms in 1978, the Indian Coast Guard has now grown into force with 158 ships and over 70 aircraft in its inventory. It is likely to achieve targeted force levels of 200 surface platforms and 80 aircraft by 2025.
