PM Modi Gifts 'Vishwakarma' Scheme To Artisans, Craftsmen On 73rd Birthday
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched PM Vishwakarma scheme on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti for artisans, craftsmen, and those engaged in tradtional skills
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the 'PM Vishwakarma' scheme for artisans, craftsmen, and those engaged in tradtional skills on the occasion of 'Vishwakarma Jayanti'. The scheme, fully funded by the Union government with with an outlay of Rupees 13,000 crore, was first announced by Modi on Independence Day. He also launched 18 post tickets and the Toolkit Booklet as he inaugurated the scheme.
Speaking at the launch, Prime Minister Modi —who turned 73 on Sunday — extended his greetings to the nation on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti, dubbing the scheme as "a ray of hope for artists and craftspersons."

"In the near future, training, technology and tools will be very essential. Under 'PM Vishwakarma' scheme, govt has focussed on providing special training to the Vishwakarma partners and Rs 500 will be provided to you while the training is underway," he said.
"You will also get a Toolkit voucher worth Rs 1,500. Govt will also help you in branding, packaging and marketing the products you make. In return, the Govt wants you to purchase Toolkits from shops that are GST registered only," he added.
About PM Vishwakarma Scheme
Under this scheme, the beneficiaries will be provided recognition through PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card, skill upgradation involving basic and advanced training, toolkit incentive of ₹15,000, collateral-free credit support up to ₹1 lakh (first tranche) and ₹2 lakh (second tranche) at a concessional interest rate of 5%, incentive for digital transactions and marketing support, according to a statement by Prime Minister's Office.
"The prime focus of PM Vishwakarma is at improving the quality as well as the reach of products and services of artisans and craftspeople and to ensure that they are integrated with the domestic and global value chains," it added.
The scheme will cover 18 traditional crafts: Carpenter, Boat Maker, Armourer, Blacksmith, Hammer and Tool Kit Maker, Locksmith, Goldsmith, Potter, Sculptor, Stone breaker, Cobbler (Shoesmith/ Footwear artisan), Mason (Rajmistri), Basket/Mat/Broom Maker/Coir Weaver, Doll & Toy Maker (Traditional), Barber, Garland maker, Washerman, Tailor, and Fishing Net Maker.
