Heeraba Modi Passes Away Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraba Modi passed away in Ahmedabad at the age of 100.
The Chinese embassy in India extended "deep condolences" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his mother's death. "Our hearts go out to the grieving family. May her soul rest in peace," the embassy tweeted.
For the residents of Vrindavan Bungalows-2 Society in Raysan village of Gandhinagar, Hiraben was an epitome of simplicity, who always maintained a low profile despite being Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother.
Hiraben, Hiraba to many, passed away at an Ahmedabad hospital early on Friday at the age of 99. She used to stay with PM Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi at Raysan located on the outskirts of the Gujarat capital.
Her neighbours said that Hiraben used to mingle with everyone and participate in all festivals.
One of the neighbours Kirtiben Patel said, "Hiraba lived here for nearly seven years and we used to meet her almost daily. She was a very humble and simple-natured woman and I personally feel that I lost my mother today. She always showered blessings on all of us. She was like a Raj-Mata of this society." Another resident Dharaben Patel said Hiraba was like her family member and she had always maintained harmonious relations with everyone living in the society.
One Ramesh Prajapati, who lives in an adjoining society, said Hiraba lived like a normal human being despite being PM's mother.
"She always believed in simple living and used to mix with everyone. She used to participate in all the festivals. Hiraba used to urge the residents to be kind towards poor people," said Prajapati.
Kokilaben Patel mourned Hiraba's death saying "Ba" had always lived a simple life and used to bless everyone who visited her during Diwali.
Hasmukh Patel, chairman of the society, said it was a matter of pride for every resident that Hiraba used to live there.
"Not just me, the entire society is in immense grief today. We all are proud of the fact that we got a chance to live with Hiraba. She always showered her blessings on all of us," he said. PTI
Hindi film personalities Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Anupam Kher on Friday expressed grief over the demise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Hiraben Modi and wished him strength to bear the loss.
Hiraben, 99, passed away at 3.30 am during the treatment at U N Mehta Heart Hospital, in Ahmedabad.
“There is no greater sorrow than losing a mother. May god give you the strength to bear this sorrow @narendramodi ji. Om Shanti,” Kumar wrote on Twitter.
Offering his condolences, Devgn said the values imparted by Hiraben has given the country a leader like Modi.
“My heartfelt condolences on the passing of Smt. Heeraben Modi. A simple, principled lady, she raised a fine son in our PM Shri Narendra Modiji. Shanti. My personal condolences to our PM and his family,” he tweeted.
In a note shared on Twitter, veteran actor Anupam Kher wrote: “Respected Prime Minister @narendramodi ji! Hearing about the demise of your Matashree #ji, I am saddened as well as distraught." “Your love and respect for her is evident in the world. No one will be able to fill her place in your life! But you are the son of Mother India! The blessings of every mother of the country are on you. My mother too!,” he added.
Sonu Sood also paid tribute to Hiraben in a social media post.
“Respected Modi ji, a mother does not go anywhere, but many times she sits at the feet of God so that her son can do better for others. Mataji was always with you and will be with you. @narendramodi Om Shanti,” he wrote.
Comedian-actor Kapil Sharma said Hiraben's blessings will be with the PM.
“Respected @narendramodi ji, it is very painful for a mother to leave the world. Her blessings will always be with you,"he tweeted.
Hiraben, also called Hiraba, lived at Raysan village near Gandhinagar city with PM Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh observed two minutes of silence & paid tribute to Prime Minister Modi's mother Heeraben Modi, who passed away at the age of 100 today, ANI reported.
"PM Modi's mother Hiraben Modi passed away today. PM Modi said that no one will cancel any of their programs anywhere and will only return to Delhi after the completion of their programs. I pay homage to her," Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, as per ANI.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Friday expressed grief over the demise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother and said her life was a great example of devotion to values. Modi's mother Hiraben passed away at a hospital in Ahmedabad on Friday. She was 99.
"On this sad occasion, all of us volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pay our respects to her," the Sangh said in a statement issued by its chief Mohan Bhagwat and general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale.
"Mataji's life was a great example of a meaningful life of continuous work on the strength of devotion to values and unwavering faith in God even in extremely difficult circumstances," the RSS said.
In this hour of grief, the Sangh express its condolences to Prime Minister Modi and his family members, the statement said.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expresses condolences over the demise of PM Modi's mother Heeraben Modi. "There is no greater loss than losing one’s mother. My condolences to Prime Minister @narendramodi on the passing away of his mother," he tweeted.

Veteran BJP leader LK Advani expressed his condolences at the demise of Heeraben Modi, the mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who passed away at an Ahmedabad hospital early Friday morning. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday condoled the death of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Hiraben, and said she gave the "inspiration of karmayoga" to her son.
Hiraben passed away at a hospital in Ahmedabad in the early hours of Friday at the age of 99. She was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday.
In a tweet, Sawant said, "I am deeply pained by the passing away of Smt. Heera-ba, the mother of our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji. PM Modi had reached Ahmedabad from Delhi on Wednesday afternoon and visited the hospital to meet his mother. He had remained at the hospital for more than an hour and had also spoken to doctors at the hospital, a government-funded autonomous medical facility.
Hiraben, also called Hiraba, lived at Raysan village near Gandhinagar city with PM Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi. The Prime Minister regularly visited Raysan and spent time with his mother during most of his Gujarat visits.
"PM Modi has left for Ahmedabad, flagging off of Vande Bharat train in Howrah, Kolkata and other developmental works of railways and under Namami Gange and meeting of National Ganga Council to be held as per plan. PM Modi may join through Video Conference," news agency ANI reported sources as saying.
On Thursday, the hospital issued a statement informing, "Smt Hiraba Modi's health condition is recovering." Earlier in the day, PM Modi's elder brother Somabhai Modi said their mother's condition was gradually improving.
“Her condition is gradually improving. She is much better today, she moved her arms and legs,” Somabhai Modi told news agency PTI.
