Delhi Police have issued a traffic advisory ahead of the State Funeral of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday. The last rites will be performed with full State honours at the Nigambodh Ghat crematorium at 11:45 am.


The veteran economist and former finance minister died on Thursday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi due to age-related ailments. 


Several dignitaries from foreign countries, other VIPs and VVIPs are expected to attend the funeral at the crematorium, due to which the traffic will be diverted at several points. 


The diversion points include Raja Ram Kohli Marg, Rajghat Red Light, Signature Bridge, and Yudhister Setu. 






Traffic restriction/regulation/diversion could be imposed on several roads or stretches from 7 am till, probably, 3 pm. The routes where these restrictions can be imposed include Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg), Nishad Raj Marg, Boulevard Road, SPM Marg, Lothian Road, and Netaji Subash Marg. 


The police advised commuters headed for Old Delhi Railway Station, ISBT, Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, and Tis Hazari Courts to leave with sufficient time at hand to accommodate possible delays.


They also urged citizens to avail public transport and avoid roadside parking. 


The mortal remains of the former PM were kept at his residence, 3, Motilal Nehru Road since Thursday night after doctors at AIIMS pronounced him dead and embalmed his body. 


At 8:30 am, the mortal remains will be brought to Congress headquarters in the nation's capital for party workers and the general public to pay their last respects. His final journey will begin at 9:30 from the Congress headquarters to the crematorium where the last rites will be performed with full State honours. 


Tributes have been pouring in for Singh from people from all walks of life including world leaders, politicians, businessmen, sports persons, and Bollywood stars.
