Ghaziabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched civilian flight operations at Hindon airbase. PM Modi inaugurated the airbase in the presence of UP CM Yogi Adityanath and UP Governor Ram Naik. In Ghaziabad he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth Rs 32,500 crore. The projects included foundation-laying of the ambitious Regional Rail Transport System (RRTS) that would connect Delhi and Meerut via Ghaziabad. The prime minister also inaugurated two model inter-colleges, one for boys and one for girls, in Loni town area, drinking water plant, sewage treatment facility and 180 houses built under the government's Aasra residential scheme in Ghaziabad city.
After the launch of the civilian flight operations, he addressed a public meeting at an adjacent ground. where he said, "Our government working on strengthening country's infrastructure and helping common people."
The Hindon Airport Civil Terminal in Ghaziabad is expected to benefit people of western Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region (NCR) as they will be able to avail domestic flights from Hindon.
The Indian Air Force permitted the use of the airbase for civilian flights under regional air connectivity scheme UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik). UDAN seeks to connect unserved and underserved airports as well as make flying more affordable. It is reported that from the Hindon Airforce Station (HFS), which is situated within 150 km of Delhi IGI airport, passengers will be able to fly from Delhi to Jaisalmer, Pithoragarh, Gorakhpur, Allahabad and Kannur. The move is expected to help in reducing the load at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in neighbouring Delhi. Delhi Airport, which is the hub of domestic operations in the country and growth of operations over the years has seen its capacity severely constrained. IGI airport sees over 1200 flights daily and its three runways can handle 67 aircraft movements per hour.प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने गाजियाबाद, उत्तर प्रदेश में विभिन्न विकास परियोजनाओं का लोकार्पण एवं शिलान्यास किया। https://t.co/ZMPaL9BDVk pic.twitter.com/mxbsDXWlF9
