Patra Chawl Land Scam Case: PMLA Court Extends Sanjay Raut’s Judicial Custody Till September 19

Earlier, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut was produced before the Court on August 8 where he was sent to judicial custody till August 22.

New Delhi: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s judicial custody was extended till September 19 by the special PMLA Court on Monday in connection with the Patra Chawl land scam case, reported news agency ANI. Earlier, the Shiv Sena MP was produced before the Court on August 8 where he was sent to judicial custody till August 22.

Initially, he was sent to ED custody till August 4 which was further extended till August 8. The judicial custody is in connection with the money laundering case linked to irregularities involving the redevelopment of Patra 'chawl' in Mumbai.

Raut was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on August 1 following raids by the anti-money laundering agency at his home after which he was detained and questioned. His wife, Varsha Raut had also been questioned by the enforcement agency on August 6 after summons were issued against her.

Earlier the probe agency told the court that Raut and his family members received "proceeds of crime" worth over Rs 1 crore generated out of alleged irregularities in the housing redevelopment project.

In April, the ED had provisionally attached assets worth over Rs 11.15 crore of Varsha Raut and two associates of Sanjay Raut as part of its probe. The attached properties are in the form of land held by Pravin M Raut, Sanjay Raut's aide and a former director of Guru Ashish Construction Private Limited, at Palghar, Saphale (a town in Palghar) and Padgha (in Thane district).

Guru Ashish Construction Private Limited was involved in the redevelopment of the chawl, which had 672 tenants living in tenements on 47 acres belonging to the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA), the ED had said earlier.
