First Session Of 18th Lok Sabha To Begin On Monday: All You Need To Know

The appointment of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and seven-term member Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro-tem speaker is expected to cast a shadow over the session.

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on Monday. The day will begin with oath-taking by the newly elected members followed by the election of the Lok Sabha Speaker on June 26, Wednesday, and President Droupadi Murmu's address to the joint sitting of both the Houses on June 27, Thursday.

The appointment of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and seven-term member Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro-tem speaker is expected to cast a shadow over the session. The Opposition has alleged the choice goes against the traditional practice of appointing the most senior MP to the role.

  • After the panel of chairpersons, Mahtab will administer the oath or affirmation as Lok Sabha members to the Council of Ministers. Over the next two days, members from the states will take their oath or make affirmations in alphabetical order.
