'Your Humility Makes Democracy Lovers Proud': PM Modi On Dy Speaker's Tea Offer To Protesting MPs

Reacting to Deputy Chairman's decision to meet the suspended MPs, PM Modi said Harivansh Singh's gesture was proof of his greatness.

New Delhi: Prime Minster Narendra Modi on Tuesday put out tweets in support of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Singh  after the later met the protesting legislators, who were suspended for their “unruly behaviour” and reacting a ruckus in the Parliament on Sunday. ALSO READ | Farm Bills Row: 8 Suspended MPs Continue Sit-In Protest Outside Parliament As Unrest Grows, Ambulance On Standby Earlier in the day, Singh brought tea and snacks for the suspended MPs who are protesting in Parliament premises, which they refused to have expressing grief over how the Dy Chairman extended support in passage of the farm bills despite the BJP being in minority in Rajya Sabha. Reacting to Deputy Chairman's decision to meet the suspended MPs, PM Modi said Harivansh Singh's gesture was proof of his greatness. "To personally serve tea to those who attacked and insulted him a few days ago as well as those sitting on Dharna shows that Shri Harivansh Ji has been blessed with a humble mind and a big heart. It shows his greatness. I join the people of India in congratulating Harivansh Ji," he tweeted. "Bihar taught the whole world about value of democracy. Today, from the same land, MP from Bihar and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Shri Harivansh's ji humility makes every democracy lover inspired and proud," PM Modi wrote in another tweet in Hindi. The suspended parliamentarians spent the night in the lawns near Mahatma Gandhi's statue, a first such overnight protest in the Parliament complex. Harivansh Singh has been in the thick of things since the suspension drama unfolded. The eight MPs were suspended for the remaining part of the current session over their "misbehavior" with the deputy chairman during the passage of the farm Bills on Sunday. We also told him that the anti-farmer Bill was passed keeping law and order at stake, it was passed without voting knowing that the BJP was in minority and you are also responsible for it," AAP's Sanjay Singh said. The eight suspended MPs are: Derek O'Brien (TMC), Sanjay Singh (AAP), Rajeev Satav (Congress), K K Ragesh (CPI-M), Syed Nazir Hussain (Congress), Ripun Boren (Congress), Dola Sen (TMC) and Elamaram Kareem (CPI-M). Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday said the opposition will boycott the proceedings of the House till the suspension of eight members is revoked. After meeting the suspended MPs, even the Deputy Speaker later announced that he will be observing fast for a day to protest against the unruly behaviour of the MPs on the floor of Rajya Sabha on Monday.
