Parliament Adjourned Till April 5, Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2023 Passed In RS Without Discussion
Rajya Sabha was also adjourned just a day after the Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was passed in the Upper House without having any discussion on it due to the ruckus by the opposition parties.
The parliament was adjourned till Wednesday after opposition parties staged a protest over the Adani matter in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Monday. The house will reconvene on April 5. The Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was passed in the upper house without any discussion on it amid the sloganeering by the opposition parties, reported news agency PTI.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar greeted the members of the house on the occasion of Rajya Sabha Day today. He urged the members to take part in the discussion and deliberations but they continued indulging in disruptions.
Amid the pandemonium in the house, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman moved the Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2023 for its consideration and passage while he sloganeering by the opposition members continued.

Later in the day, Dhankhar put the bill to voice and the bill was passed amid the ongoing uproar by opposition members in the house.
Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2023
The bill was passed on March 29 by Lok Sabha and it ensures that the Competition Commission of India (CCI) can impose penalties on entities based on their global turnover instead of the current practice of considering only relevant market turnover.
These amendments were made by the Corporate Affairs Ministry in the original bill. The bill was introduced in Parliament on August 5 in 2022. Later, it was sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance chaired by BJP member Jayant Sinha. Following this, the panel tabled its report in Parliament on December 13 last year.
The Parliament sessions adjourned as the Congress and other opposition parties continued demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the charges against the Adani Group, reported PTI.
Congress MPs were seen wearing black clothes while TMC members were wearing black face masks.
