Pakistan makes agreement for Kartarpur Corridor, wants advance list of Indian pilgrims

The much-awaited Kartarpur Corridor agreement has been finalised by Pakistan in a 14-key recommendation consisting 59-page list.

Kartarpur Corridor: The much-awaited Kartarpur Corridor agreement has been finalised by Pakistan in a 14-key recommendation consisting 59-page list. According to reports, pilgrims from India will have to carry passport and must get a security clearance from India. The agreement also states that Indian government will have to share the details of pilgrims and their security clearance certificate 3 days prior for their visit to Darbar Sahib Gurudwara in Kartarpur. The holy Gurduwara is believed to be the place where Guru Nanak spent the last 18 years of his life. According to media reports, the agreement has been prepared by Pakistan but yet not approved as it has not been shared with India. Pakistan stated that the objective of the agreement is to facilitate a visa-free travel of pilgrims from India to Kartarpur Sahib. The visitors will also be given free facilitation centres and security check-post will be set up within both sides of the border. Earlier this week, Pakistan described the Kartarpur corridor as the high point of diplomacy for the Imran Khan government while admitted that there was no progress on the contentious issues with India. Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammad Faisal also said that the Kashmir issue remained on top of Pakistan's priority. At the weekly media briefing, Faisal stated that the Kartarpur corridor was the high point of diplomacy for Pakistan's new government. Faisal also said that Imran Khan in a letter to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in September gave a detailed roadmap to move forward but New Delhi failed to reciprocate. The foundation stone for the corridor linking Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's Kartarpur - the final resting place of Sikh faith's founder Guru Nanak Dev - to Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India's Gurdaspur district was initiated after a foundation stone ceremony arranged by Pakistan in November this year.
