New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday informed that around 70 percent of applications pending for Indian citizenship are from Pakistanis.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said out of the 10,635 applicants, who applied for Indian citizenship till December 14, 2021, as many as 7,306 were from Pakistan.
He added that there were 1,152 applications pending from Afghanistan, 428 from Stateless, 223 from Sri Lanka and the United States, 189 from Nepal and 161 from Bangladesh, ANI reported.
The Minister of State for Home Affairs told this in the Parliament while replying to the details of current applicants for the Indian citizenship, including the data of their current citizenship.
He added that as many as 10 applicants from China had applied for Indian citizenship.
Rai cited this data while responding to the question asked by Rajya Sabha MP Abdul Wahab on the current applicants for Indian citizenship.
The MHA has the power to grant Indian citizenship. This is done after detailed verification and scrutiny of the application received.
