New Delhi: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee working president PT Thomas breathed his last at Christian Medical College in Vellore on Wednesday morning. He was 70 years old. He was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment for the past month at CMC, Vellore. Thomas is survived by his wife and two sons.
Thomas was one of the three working presidents of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee. He represented the Thrikkakara constituency in the Kerala Assembly. Thomas earlier represented the Idukki constituency in Lok Sabha once and the Thodupuzha constituency in the Assembly twice.

He was earlier the Managing Director of 'Veekshanam', a mouthpiece of the Indian National Congress in Kerala. The 70-year-old was also an author and environmental activist.
Thomas started his political career with the Kerala Students Union (KSU), the Students' wing of Congress. Eventually, he became the KSU district president in Idukki and then went on to attain the throne as state president. In 1980, he became the state general secretary of the Youth Congress. He became the president of the Idukki District Congress Committee In 2017.
In 1991 and 2001, he won the assembly elections from Thodupuzha while and in 2016 and 2021, he won the seats from Thrikkakara. In 2009, he represented Idukki in Lok Sabha.
