New Delhi: The motion of co-confidence brought by the Opposition bloc against the Centre was defeated by a voice vote in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

The no-confidence motion was tabled in the Lok Sabha by Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on behalf of the Opposition bloc I.N.D.I.A. In the voice vote, the Speaker found the 'nos' to be in majority, following which the motion was defeated.

Replying to the motion of no-confidence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at Opposition, saying they brought the no-trust motion but did not prepare it well and advised them to come well-prepared when they bring it again in 2028.

Launching a scathing attack on the Opposition, PM Modi said the no-trust motion was not a floor test for the government and that the BJP will secure a thumping majority in the Lok Sabha elections next year.

Taking a jibe at Opposition, PM Modi said, "In a way, Opposition's no-confidence has always been lucky for us. Today, I can see that you (Opposition) have decided that NDA and BJP will come back in 2024 elections with a grand victory, breaking all previous records, with the blessings of the people."

Further slamming the Opposition, PM Modi said in their efforts in cobbling together an alliance, they had even splintered I.N.D.I.A.

“Such is the way of these parties that they had to take the support of the NDA to keep themselves alive. But, out of habit, they couldn’t shake off the arrogance of ‘I’. This is why they inserted two 'I's of arrogance in I.N.D.I.A. The first 'I' is the arrogance of 26 parties that came together and the second 'I' is the arrogance of one family. They stole NDA too,” PM Modi said.
