Opposition divided over Sonia’s anti-demonetisation meet, question Congress’ agenda
New Delhi: The opposition doesn’t seem united against the government’s demonetisation move as majority of the parties including JD (U), left parties and NCP have shown apprehension over joining Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s meet which is scheduled to take place on December 27 in the national capital.
According to the sources, only Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and RJD Chief Lalu Yadav will be attendees in Sonia’s meeting. It is being assumed that most of the parties don’t want to be shown in bad light by standing against Prime Minister’s ‘anti-corruption’ move.
Before giving their nod in joining the meeting the opposition parties want to be certain of Congress’ stand and want Sonia to clear her stand on demonetisation. They also seek from Congress, which has itself been accused of so many scams, to clear its economic stand first.
Out of the opposition parties, JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar was among the first people to welcome PM’s demonetisation move with open arms and stood against their allies RJD and Congress’ stand.
But, JD(U) is the only opposition party that stands in favour of demonetisation, even CPM has shown its stand in favour of the move and therefore declined the invitation by Congress in joining the meet, in spite of being very vocal about the bad implementation of demonetisation.
Not just JDU and CPM, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday said, " it is incumbent upon Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to substantiate his corruption claims against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi".
While speaking to news agency ANI NCP leader Majeed Memon said, "It's a political strategy adopted by Congress. In fact, the Congress is supported by several opposition parties, including the JD (U), SP, Left and CPM and TMC. In the last session the opposition was completely united and in that context Rahul has some names, evidences about the involvement of Prime Minister personally. He will have to substantiate it now".
