Visibility Remains Low As Fog Engulfs North India Amid Dipping Temperatures

Fog continued to engulf several parts of north India as people got no respite from dipping temperatures.

North India continued to be in the firm grip of cold wave amid dropping temperatures and a layer of fog lowering the visibility in many parts of the region. According to India Meteorological Department Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan recorded a minimum temperature between 4 to 8 degrees Celsius on Monday as against 6 to 9 degrees Celsius a day before. 

Parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and northwest Madhya Pradesh also recorded minimum temperature within the range of 9 to 12 degrees Celsius. Rajasthan's Alwar recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius on Monday. 

Cold and dense fog could be seen in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal on Tuesday. Delhi and Uttar Pradesh were also engulfed within a layer of fog amid the cold wave. 

As per the weather department, dense to very dense fog and cold day to severe cold day conditions likely to continue over north India on Tuesday and gradually decrease thereafter. 

Punjab and Haryana also continued to reel under fog on Monday reducing visibility at many places. 

As per the weather department, Gurdaspur in Punjab reeled under biting chill, recording a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, Bathinda, Patiala, Ludhiana, Pathankot, also experienced a cold night, recording respective minimums of 5.6 degrees Celsius, 6.1 degrees Celsius, 6 degrees Celsius and 6.7 degrees Celsius.

In Haryana, piercing cold swept Rohtak, which recorded a low of 6.7 degrees Celsius, the bulletin said.

In view of the cold wave conditions, physical classes for upto class 8th were suspended till January 13 in Chandigarh. Winter vacation for schools in Delhi was also extended till January 12 for primary classes.
