'No Kissing Zone' Painted On Street Outside Mumbai Housing Society, Know Why

'Disturbed' by couples kissing in full public view, people living in a housing society in Mumbai painted 'No Kissing Zone' on the streets leading to it.

Mumbai: A residential society in Mumbai is "fed up of" couples openly kissing on the streets — so much so that people living in the housing society have painted 'no kissing zone' on the streets near it.

The 'no kissing zone' was spotted near the Satyam Shivam Sundaram Housing Society in the Borivali area of Mumbai. According to reports, people in the society said a few couples have been seen jaywalking on the nearby streets during the lockdown. These couples were seen standing, talking and "kissing as soon as they get a chance".

News website BBC quoted people of the housing society as saying that they don't find it nice to see couples kissing this way in full public view. After they painted 'No Kissing Zone' on the road, the number of jaywalking couples has now reduced, people from the housing society claimed.

Justifying the 'No Kissing Zone' graffiti on the road, a resident said it's not good for children living in the housing society to see couples kiss, and that this could have a "negative influence" on them.

Another resident living in the society said the couples were first seen kissing on the adjacent road. Someone had made a video then sent it to the local corporator, who in turn handed over the video to the police complaining of "obscenity".

The residents said while the corporatOR had hoped for action, he did not receive any response from the police, after which the people living in the housing society took it up upon themselves and wrote 'No Kissing Zone' on the road outside the gate.

"We are not against couples," said Advocate Vinay Ansurkar, chairman of the housing society, speaking on the "no kissing zone" graffiti. "We just wanted to forbid the obscenity that these couples indulge in. In such a situation, children and the elderly living in our homes are negatively influenced."
