NIA Raids 6 States In Crackdown On Banned Outfit PFI

The National Investigation Agency carried out raids in six states on Wednesday against PFI, which was banned last year under the anti-terror law.

In a massive crackdown on the Popular Front of India, the National Investigation Agency carried out raids in six states on Wednesday against the outfit, which was banned last year under the anti-terror law, an official said on Wednesday. The raids are being conducted in states including Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, the official added. In September 2022, the government imposed a ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI) for its alleged terror activities.

The investigative agency has been carrying out raids in multiple areas in Madurai in the PFI case.

In addition to this, the NIA, along with the police, carried out a raid at Old Delhi's Ballimaran on Wednesday morning. This comes under the Hauz Qazi police station area.

The NIA sleuths also carried out raids in Shagird Pesha area in Rajasthan’s Tonk in connection to the banned outfit, as reported by PTI.

The federal probe agency conducted searches at the home of Abdul Wahid Shaikh in the Vikhroli area of Maharashtra's Mumbai, as reported by PTI. Shaikh was an accused in the 2006 railway blasts case but a trial court acquitted him of all the charges.

Last month, the Enforcement Directorate carried out raids in the houses of former PFI workers in four districts of Kerala: Thrissur, Ernakulam, Malappuram, and Wayanad.

In August, the NIA raided the house of several PFI operatives in Malappuram. The raids were conducted at the residences of Thayyil Hamza in Vengara, Kalathiparambil Yahuti in Tirur, Haneefa in Tanur, and Rangattur Padikkaparambil Jaffer, who were all part of the banned PFI.
