NHRC seeks report from Centre, Odisha Govt over death of five tribals
Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the Centre as well as the Odisha Government on the incident after taking suo motu cognizance of the death of five innocent tribals in Kandhamal which took place last Friday.
The commission has given a time of two weeks to submit the report.
NHRC Secretary General SN Mohanty said that under Section 19 of Protection of Human Rights Act, the commission has sought reports from both the Union Home Ministry and Odisha Government on the incident.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) P.L Punia, who visited yesterday Gumudumaha village and spoke to the family members and relatives of the victims, said that stern action must be taken against the wrongdoers.
He said as informed by the state government, it has already made provisions for providing housing for the victims' families.
The government had also assured the NCSC that the children of victims would be provided free education up to graduation level.
