NCB team attacked by drug peddlers: A squad of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) including its zonal director Sameer Wankhede came under an attack from a group of drug peddlers led by Carey Mendes and his men in Mumbai’s Goregaon area. In the attack, 2 NCB officials have sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment in hospital.

A mob of 50-60 people launched the attack on NCB team:

A mob of 50-60 people launched an attack at the NCB team which was carrying out an operation in Mumbai’s Goregaon area. The team was searching for peddler Carey Mendes when the mob allegedly comprising of Mendes’ henchmen attacked them.

An FIR has been registered under section 353 of the IPC in Goregaon police station. The arrested accused are  identified as Vipul Agre, 25 ; Yusuf Shaikh, 24 and Amin Abdul Latif Shaikh, 55.  All of them have been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

They detained  Mendes' and that time Agre and Shaikh started to argue asking the reason for catch hold off him and where were they taking him. An altercation broke out between the NCB team and the men during the time of raid which later turned violent.

The NCB team which went for the raid, comprised of 5 people including the zonal director Wankhede.

The situation was brought under control after interference of local police which managed to get hold of some of the attackers.

Bollywood Drug Probe:

The NCB is probing the alleged drug nexus in Bollywood and in the course has made several arrests. On This weekend Comedienne Bharti and her husband were nabbed by the NCB in the wake of raids at their home and office in Andheri West which led to alleged seizure of 86.50 gm of marijuana or 'ganja'. The NCB has invoked Sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances pertaining to possession of small quantities of restricted drugs and their consumption.

Since September, the NCB has arrested over two dozen persons, including Bollywood actress Rhea Chakbraborty (since bailed out), her brother Showik (who is still in jail), and other film industry-related persons, drug financiers, suppliers or peddlers, including some foreigners.
