Nagaland Firing: Indian Army Says Inquiry ‘Progressing Expeditiously’, Assures Action Will Be Taken As Per Law

In its official statement, the Indian Army stated, "The inquiry ordered by Army is progressing expeditiously and all efforts are being made to conclude it at the earliest.

New Delhi: The Indian Army on Sunday said that the inquiry into the Nagaland firing incident which led to the killing of citizens on December 4 in the Mon district was “progressing expeditiously,” reported ANI. They also said that they were cooperating with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry ordered by the Nagaland Government. 

In its official statement, the Indian Army stated, "The inquiry ordered by Army is progressing expeditiously and all efforts are being made to conclude it at the earliest. We have taken out notices for people to come forward and assist us in the inquiry."

"The Indian Army is also fully cooperating with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry ordered by State Govt and required details are being shared in a timely manner," the statement read further. 

The Army assured the people of Nagaland that the action would be taken in accordance with the law and requested them to be patient. "We request all brothers and sisters of Nagaland to be patient and wait for the findings of the Army inquiry. We assure you that action will be taken in accordance with the law to secure justice for all," the statement said. 

The Nagaland Government, in the meanwhile, also informed on Sunday that a Court of Enquiry would be initiated and disciplinary proceedings would be taken up against the army personnel and army unit involved in the incident.

An official press release by the Nagaland Government stated, “A Court of Enquiry will initiate disciplinary proceedings against the army unit and army personnel, who are directly involved in the Oting incident and action will be taken immediately on the basis of enquiry." 

On December 4 in the Oting village of the Mon district in Nagaland, around 14 civilians were killed in a botched up operation by the Indian Army.
