Munna Bajrangi death: Gangster was beaten up before being shot dead by Sunil Rathi, says post mortem report

New Delhi: Days after Munna Bajrangi alias Prem Prakash was killed by Gangster Sunil Rathi in Baghpat jail, the post-mortem report has now revealed that the deceased gangster was beaten up before being shot dead. It was earlier reported that Bajrangi had an argument over 'supari' (contract killing) with Rathi after which the latter killed him. However, this was not verified by the authorities. It was also reported that Munna Bajrangi had been shot at seven times by a co-prisoner. Superintendent of Police Jai Prakash was quoted by PTI as saying that the postmortem examination report of Bajrangi said he was shot at seven times by jail inmate Sunil Rathi. He said one of the bullets had hit Bajrangi's head and a portion of his head was badly mutilated on the right side. The prisons administration department wrote a letter to the home ministry to shift Sunil Rathi to another jail.

Bajrangi's murder in UP jail not an isolated case

The killing of gangster Munna Bajrangi in the Uttar Pradesh jail was not an isolated case. There have been quite a few cases being reported in the state in the last years. Anurag Tripathi alias Annu, said to be close to a sharpshooter of the Munna Bajrangi gang, was shot at inside Varanasi jail by another murder accused Santosh Gupta on May 13, 2015. In this case, the firearm was smuggled inside the prison in the body of an air cooler to avoid metal-detectors, a senior police officer said. On June 22, 2011, YC Sachan, a key accused in the NRHM scam, was found dead inside the Lucknow jail. His body was found in a jail toilet in a sitting position with nine injuries caused by shaving blade. His leather belt was found tied around his neck with its other end tied to window grill.

Akhilesh Yadav slams UP govt on crime front

A day after gangster Munna Bajrangi was shot dead in Baghpat district jail, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had slammed the Yogi Adityanath government for ensuring "no law and order" in the state, a charge refuted by the BJP government. "In present day Uttar Pradesh, there is no law and order, just an atmosphere of panic. The perpetrators have become so confident that they have murdered someone in prison. These are the government's failures. The people of the state are very scared; the state has never seen such misrule and chaos before," the SP president had tweeted in Hindi. UP government spokesperson and senior Cabinet Minister Sidharth Nath Singh, however, refuted his charges, saying law and order was "definitely better" compared to the SP regime and police were hot on the heels of criminals across the state.
