Mumbai Rains: Red Alert For 2 Days, High Tide Today; A Look At How Overnight Downpour Has Hit Rail, Road & Life
The weather department has issued a red alert in Mumbai and suburbs for two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) due to the extremely heavy rains.
Mumbai Rains: Situation in Maharashtra capital Mumbai remained grim at double fronts as the financial capital of the country grapples with unprecedented rains amid high Covid-19 transmission. The city woke up to massive rains on Tuesday with over 230mm of rain in the last 10 hours. Normal life has been badly impaired due to water-logging, with higher than waist-high impoundment at several places.

Here’s a look at how the continuous downpur has thrown normalcy out of gear this year as well.
- Red Alert has been sounded for 2 days. IMD said heavy rain will occur at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts of Maharashtra on August 4 and August 5.
- People are advised not to go near beaches and other low lying areas as a high tide of 4.51 meters is expected in Mumbai at 12:47 pm today, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said.
- BEST bus services diverted on at least 8 routes in various parts of Mumbai city and suburbs, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has said.
- The local train service, which is considered lifeline of Mumbai, has also been affected. The trains of western line have been completely stopped. The services on the harbour line have been facing disruption between Kurla and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), the BMC said, adding that trains on central line are running with slow speed.
- All the private offices and other establishments, except emergency services, have been asked to remain shut today.
- The BMC has also put on alert fire brigade, pumping stations and operating staff at temporarily installed 299 pumping machines.
- Due to high tide & heavy rains resulting in water logging at Dadar & Prabhadevi, special suburban services are being run between Virar-Andheri-Bandra & services suspended between Bandra-Churchgate: Western Railway
