Monday woes: Delhi wakes up to traffic jams courtesy rains

New Delhi: Delhiites who have been craving for heavy showers to bring down the temperature have been granted their wish, however, it seems to have brought along with it a host of other problems, most problematic and inconvenient being traffic jams.   The national capital woke up to a cool 26 degree Celsius Monday morning, but for office goers it was all downhill from there as the waterlogged roads brought the traffic to an almost standstill.   From Dhaula Kuan to RK Puram the traffic saw a slow, sludgy movement, paralyzing the commuters.   Similar scenes were witnessed at Malviya Nagar, AIIMS and almost the entire ring road.   Moti Lal Nehru Place, Janpath, Prithviraj T-Point, Raja Garden Chowk, Moti Nagar-Karam Pura Crossing, Munirka Subway and Okhla Underpass also saw massive jams.   The Delhi Traffic Police have advised commuters to plan their route in advance, and avoid points that generally witness traffic jams or water-logging.   "We will be deploying many of our personnel, and the focus will be on major water-logging points. We have already listed out 163 water-logging points and apprised the agencies concerned of the need to fix them," said Sandeep Goel, special commissioner of police (traffic).   The Traffic Police have also been Tweeting consistently all morning regarding all the location facing possible jams and blocks.   The task of battling the herculean task of fixing the water-logging problem is bound to get the Public Works Department (PWD) in a fix.
