The scheme will provide amount only to those graduate Muslim girls who have already received MAEF scholarships earlier.
NEW DELHI: In a recent development, Modi government has announced that it is soon going to give a wedding gift of Rs 51,000 to Muslim women who will obtain graduate degrees. The step has been taken in order to encourage the pursuit of higher education among Muslim women.
The scheme has been christened Shaadi Shagun, which will provide amount only to those graduate Muslim girls who have already received MAEF scholarships earlier. Currently, a website is being put up by Maulana Azad Educational Foundation where all the details of the scheme would be made available.
The step, taken by Maulana Azad Educational Foundation, will encourage the Muslim women to opt for higher studies. MAEF says the scheme has been tailored only for Muslim women and this will encourage them to complete their studies at the college or university level.
Also, a meeting was held by MAEF recently which took important decisions regarding the scholarships offered to Muslim women. It was also decided that a sum of Rs 10,000 will be offered to Muslim girls studying in class 9th and 10th.
Treasurer, Shakir Hussain Ansari said that the step taken by them will encourage women to pursue higher studies. Girl children in a large part of Muslim society are deprived of higher education even today, many times due to financial constraints. This initiative might eradicate this problem and work for good.
