Man Who Breached Security To Intrude Mamata Banerjee's Residence Had 11 SIM Cards, Visited Bangladesh: SIT

The accused had also visited Bangladesh during last year’s Durga Puja and stayed there for a few days, the investigation revealed.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the security breach at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee' s residence in Kalighat, Kolkata on Monday said Eleven SIM cards were found in possession of the intruder Hafizul Mollah (30) who made calls to Bihar, Jharkhand and Bangladesh using those SIM. The investigating team also revealed that Mollah allegedly visited Bangladesh last year and was in contact with criminals in Mumbai, Gujarat and Bihar. However, the nature of the conversation is still not known, reported news agency PTI.

The accused had swum across to Bangladesh during last year’s Durga Puja and stayed there for a few days, the investigation further revealed.

"There are indications that Mollah might be linked to a terror outfit. But nothing has been established as yet," PTI quoted a senior Kolkata police officer as saying.

Earlier, Mollah had recced  Mamata Banerjee' s residence at least seven times and allegedly clicked photos of her residence using his mobile phone. He also lured local children with toffees in order to gather information about the house in Kalighat area, reported PTI.

“This man has been visiting the locality for quite some time. He has been there at least seven times. Every time he was there, he had given toffees to children and tried to get information from them regarding the CM’s residence. We have found several photographs of the CM’s house on his mobile phone,” a senior Kolkata Police officer was quoted as saying by PTI

In the intervening night of July 2-3, Hafizul Mollah gave a slip to security guards and entered the residence of Mamata Banerjee with an iron rod. He remained inside till he was caught by the security guards in the morning.

An eight-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to enquire about the lapses which permitted Mollah to enter the Z-Plus security cover at Mamata’s residence.

Mollah was presented in court on Monday and was granted police custody till July 18.
