Mamata Is CM For Only One Religion: Bengal BJP Chief After Visiting Violence-Hit Areas In State

Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said that Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister for only one religion and not for the whole of West Bengal.

West Bengal Ram Navami Violence: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) state president Dr. Sukanta Majumdar on Sunday lashed out at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after he was denied permission to visit the victims of violence in Howrah's Shibpur. He said that Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister for only one religion and not for the whole of West Bengal. He also asked for a probe into the violent clashes by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

He said, "West Bengal CM not for all but only one for people of one religion."

Majumdar on Sunday met victims of recent clashes in Howrah during his visit to a temple but was denied permission to visit Shibpur as police said Section 144 has been imposed there. He alleged the ministers are going into the violence-hit areas despite Section 144 but he was not being allowed.

He said that he would apprise the state governor of the situation. According to ANI, after meeting the victims, Majumdar told the media, "The situation is not normal yet. I will report the ground reality to the Governor. A lot of people I have spoken to have told me that they are scared. Central govt and State govt should talk about the deployment of CAPFs here. There should be a CBI inquiry into the incident."

In West Bengal, two groups clashed in Howrah amid Ram Navami celebrations on March 30. Several vehicles were set on fire, and public and private properties were vandalised during the clashes.

On the other hand, clashes in Bihar were reported on March 31, in Nalanda's Biharsharif and Sasaram in Rohtas district where Union Home Minister Amit Shah was scheduled to visit.
