Timely action and detection of powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) by officials helped avert a major tragedy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Sunday. Officials said the IED, which was planted inside a tiffin box, was found lying on the roadside by the army’s road opening party at Sangpur village along the Jammu-Poonch National Highway early morning, reported news agency PTI. Subsequently, officials said they suspended traffic on the busy highway and called a bomb disposal squad to destroy the explosive substance in a controlled mechanism without causing any damage.
After the incident, a case was registered by the police and an investigation was launched to identify and arrest the suspected terrorists, who planted the IED on the highway to trigger an explosion, said the officials.
