Maratha Agitation: 21-year-old youth commits suicide because of being jobless
In the suicide note recovered Umesh Atmaram Indait had written that he could not land up a job despite having a degree of Bachelor in Sciences.
New Delhi: In Maharashtra’s Aurangabad a 21-year-old young man of Maratha community allegedly hanged himself to death because of being jobless.
Police recovered a suicide note in which 21-year-old Umesh Atmaram Indait had written that he could not land up a job despite having a degree of Bachelor in Sciences.
"I did not fulfil the dreams of my parents. I am still jobless even though after completing my B.Sc because I belong to the Maratha community," it said.
Indait ended his life at a time when a full-fledged agitation is going on by Maratha outfits for reservation in jobs and education for the community. In the last two weeks, at least six cases of suicide by young Maratha men have surfaced.
In all these cases, the victims purportedly mentioned that they were ending life for the cause of the quota, or because they were frustrated because of lack of job and education opportunities, the police said.
Indait hanged himself at his house in Choudhary Colony in Chikalthana area on Thursday.
After a photograph of the suicide note found its way on social media platforms, hundreds of protesters gathered on Jalna Road in the city.
Some of them tried to block the road and there was stone-pelting, the police officer said.
So far at least 14 people have committed suicide over the Maratha reservation demands.
