Karunanidhi Funeral Live: A controversy erupted over Karunanidhi's cremation as the state government on Tuesday rejected DMK demand for giving space for his burial at Marina beach, propelling an early morning hearing of High Court on the matter on Wednesday.

Karunanidhi Funeral: DMK patriarch and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday began his final journey on a flower-decked military vehicle from Rajaji Hall to Marina beach. Thousands of his emotional supporters joined his bereaved family to catch a last glimpse of the Kalaignar. Earlier, a controversy erupted over Karunanidhi's cremation as the state government on Tuesday rejected DMK's demand for giving space for his burial at Marina beach, propelling an early morning hearing of High Court on the matter on Wednesday. However, the Madras High Court today allowed the burial of the DMK chief on the Marina Beach. Keeping their personal and political differences aside, the grief over father's demise united siblings Stalin, Alagiri and Kanimozhi. PM Narendra Modi also met them and offered his condolences. Congress President Rahul Gandhi, former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and former Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav also arrived in afternoon to pay their last respects. They'll be offended if burial land is not allotted for Karunanidhi at Marina beach." He also said  'You (state govt) have announced state mourning, why not give land for burial? There's no prohibition under Central Govt protocol to allot land at Marina beach for ex-CMs."
  • 9:05 am: Four petitioners challenging the Karunanidhi's cremation at Marina, withdrew their petitions. The fifth one said that court’s order will be acceptable. The High Court after this, dismissed the fifth petition as well. Hearing is underway for the petition filed by DMK.
