CBI Questions Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal In Liquor Policy Case, Gets Nod To Present Him Before Court Tomorrow
Arvind Kejriwal has been questioned by the CBI in connection with the Delhi Liquor Policy Case. Kejriwal, who has been in Tihar Jail since March, will be presented before a trial court on Wednesday.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday questioned Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal and recorded his statement concerning the excise policy case. The central agency has been granted permission to present Kejriwal before the relevant trial court on Wednesday, 26 June. According to sources, the CBI has not arrested the Delhi CM at this point.
The CBI has clarified that Arvind Kejriwal has not been arrested. This statement comes amid ongoing speculation regarding his arrest by the central agency amid the investigation into the Delhi excise policy.
This development follows the Delhi High Court's decision to stay the trial court's order granting him bail in a related money laundering case. Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener, has been in Tihar Jail since March after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on charges of money laundering.
AAP Claims ‘Centre Conspiring To Register Fake CBI Case’ Against Delhi CM Kejriwal
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has accused the Centre of conspiring against Kejriwal. "At a time when there is a cent per cent possibility that Arvind Kejriwal will get bail from the Supreme Court, sources have informed me that the Centre is conspiring with CBI officials to register a fake CBI case against the Delhi CM and get him arrested by the CBI. The entire nation can see Centre's atrocities and injustice and is standing in solidarity with Arvind Kejriwal," Singh stated.

"How can one get justice when fake cases are leveled against Arvind Kejriwal to keep him in jail and finish off his politics and ruin his party? Let us raise our voices against this," Sanjay Singh remarked.
Delhi High Court Stays Bail To Kejriwal In ED's Money Laundering Case
The Delhi High Court's decision to stay Kejriwal's bail was based on the assertion that the trial court did not properly evaluate the evidence presented by the ED. Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain, while staying the bail order, noted that the trial judge failed to consider the arguments and documentation provided by the ED. The court stressed that the trial court must give adequate opportunity to all parties to present their case, news agency PTI reported.
"The trial judge not only did not discuss and consider the arguments made by the anti-money laundering agency, including those advanced in the written submissions, it also did not discuss and record its view with respect to the twin condition requirement under section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) while granting bail," Justice Jain remarked, as per PTI.

On June 20, Special Judge Niyay Bindu granted bail to Kejriwal, citing the ED's failure to provide direct evidence linking him to the money laundering case. However, the ED immediately challenged this decision in the High Court, which led to the stay on the bail order. The High Court has listed the next hearing on this matter for 10 July.
Kejriwal has appealed to the Supreme Court against the High Court's interim stay on his bail. The Supreme Court scheduled the hearing for June 26.
The excise policy, which is at the centre of the controversy, was scrapped in 2022 following allegations of irregularities and corruption. The CBI and ED claim that changes to the policy were made to favour certain license holders, resulting in financial gains for some individuals.
