'Lord Krishna Must Be Cursing…': Yogi Adityanath Hits Back At Akhilesh Yadav

In a veiled dig at Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said Lord Krishna "must be cursing" those who were in power and did nothing for Mathura and Vrindavan.

New Delhi: The recurring motif ahead of the election in Uttar Pradesh seems to be Lord Krishna.

In a veiled dig at Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said Lord Krishna "must be cursing" those who were in power and did nothing for Mathura and Vrindavan, referring to the two holy cities linked to Lord Krishna.

Addressing a government event in Aligarh, Adityanath said, "Some people must be seeing Lord Krishna in their dreams and must be telling them to at least cry now on your failures. What you could not do, the BJP government has done. Lord Krishna must be cursing them because he must be telling them when you were in power you did nothing for places like Mathura and Vrindavan."

Adityanath said the previous dispensation was not bothered about Lord Krishna and, in fact, worshipped his maternal uncle, Kansa.

'Last Night, Lord Krishna...Said You Are Going To Form The Govt': Akhilesh Yadav

The remarks by the UP Chief Minister come a day after Akhilesh Yadav said that Lord Krishna had told him in his dreams that he would come to power in Uttar Pradesh.

"Last night, Lord Krishna came in my dreams and said you are going to form the government. He did not come once but comes each day," SP chief had said.

Further taking a jibe at UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Akhilesh said that he had failed the state and nobody could make him pass this time. He added that BJP has made "a man facing several heinous criminal cases the UP chief minister".

Who Will Contest Elections From Where?

Yogi Adityanath, former Gorakhpur MP, had not participated in the 2017 state assembly election and is now a member of Uttar Pradesh's legislative council.

However, ahead of the 2022 state polls, which is scheduled to be held in February-March, there have been rumours that Adityanath would contest from either Ayodhya or Mathura as this would appeal to the party's core Hindutva vote-base.

Yogi Adityanath told reporters last week that he would contest from anywhere the party wanted him to. BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harnath Singh Yadav has written to party chief JP Nadda, suggesting that Adityanath should contest the upcoming polls from Mathura, the birthplace of Krishna.

Akhilesh Yadav is an MP from east Uttar Pradesh but has never contested a state election.
