PM Modi Interview: PM Opens Up On Electoral Bonds, His Intervention Amid Russia-Ukraine War, And More

PM Modi Interview: PM Narendra Modi discussed electoral bonds, his intervention in the Russia-Ukraine war, the Ram Temple inauguration, and the 'Santana Dharma' controversy in an interview.

In the run-up to the Lok Sabha Election 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken about electoral bonds, his intervention amid the Russia-Ukraine war, the Ram Temple inauguration, the Santana Dharma row, and more while also hitting out at the Opposition including the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

Speaking to news agency ANI, PM Narendra Modi opened up on electoral bonds and the criticism regarding it saying, "If there were no electoral bonds, who would have had the power to find out where the money came from and where it went? This is the success story of electoral bonds that there were electoral bonds, that is why you are getting a trail of money. "The concern I have is that I never say that there are no deficiencies in decision-making. In decision-making, we learn and improve. It is very possible to improve in this too. But today we have completely pushed the country towards black money. That is why I say everyone will regret it," he added.

Elaborating on the BJP's poll promise of 'One Nation, One Election', he said, "One nation one election is our commitment...Many people have come on board in the country...Many people have given their suggestions to the committee. Very positive and innovative suggestions have come. The country will benefit a lot if we are able to implement this report".

PM Modi On His Intervention Amid Russia-Ukraine War, 'Santana Dharma' Row, Ram Mandir Inauguration

When asked about this intervention amid the Russia-Ukraine war for the evacuation of Indian nationals, he pointed to his friendly relations with both President Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy and remarked, "I can publicly say to President Putin that this is not the time for war. I can also say publicly to Ukraine that we should follow the path of dialogue. This is because I have credibility."

"...When I said that so many people from India our youth is trapped. And I need your help. And what can I do for you? Then I said, I have arranged so much. You help me so much. They helped. And the strength of the Indian flag was so much that even a foreigner used to hold the Indian flag in his hand. So there was a place for him. So my flag became my guarantee," the Prime Minister added.

PM Narendra Modi told ANI regarding the 'Santana Dharma' row, "This should be asked of Congress - the same Congress with which Mahatma Gandhi had associated himself once upon a time; the same Congress whose Indira Gandhi publically wore Rudraksha Maala round her neck. Congress should be asked what is its compulsion to sit with people who are spewing such venom against Sanatana? Will it leave its politics incomplete? What is this perversion in the Congress mindset - it is a matter of concern within Congress itself. DMK was perhaps born in this hatred...but the question is not about them. It is about a party like Congress. Has it lost its basic character?... It is a matter of concern for the country that it is a compulsion for Congress."

On the issue of the Ram Temple, he hit out at the Opposition saying it was a political weapon for them and now it has been built, "the issue has gone out of their hands".

PM Modi On Opposition Allegations Regarding Central Agencies, EVMs, Swipe At Rahul Gandhi

When asked about the opposition's allegation that the government is misusing agencies and questions on alleged EVM tampering, he remarked, "In reality, they are trying to come up with a reason for their defeat. So that blame for defeat is not attributed to them directly... Out of these, not a single law (ED, CBI filing cases) was brought by my government, on the contrary, Election Commission reforms were brought by my Government."

He cited the appointment of Election Commissioners in previous Congress governments to highlight the reforms made under his rule and said, "If the Election Commission is formed today, then the opposition is also in it. Earlier, the Prime Minister used to sign a file and form the Election Commission. Those who were close to their families, such people became election commissioners. Such people, who after leaving from there, became members of the Rajya Sabha, became ministers of their government. Such election commissioners were chosen who became Congress candidates later."

"And that is why we cannot play at that level. We cannot become like this. We want to go on the right path, we don't want to go on the wrong path. Secondly, how did the CBI and ED come about? There is a saying—Naach na jaan aangan tedha. That's why sometimes they will make excuses about the EVM. Basically, for their defeat, they have started to set some reasoning from now," he said in response to the Opposition's demand for a level playing field.

In an indirect jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi commented, “Unfortunately, these days, we see there is no commitment and responsibility towards one word. You must have seen old videos of a leader circulating, where his every thought is contradictory. When people see this, they think that this leader was trying to hoodwink the public. Lately, I heard a politician say “Ek jhatke mein garibi hata dunga (I will eradicate poverty in an instant)”. Those who got a chance to be in power for 5-6 decades, when they say this, the country thinks what is this man saying?”

On his plans for the prospective third term after 10 years at Centre, he remarked, "I have big plans...kisi ko darne ki zaroorat nahin hai (No one needs to be afraid). My decisions are not made to scare anyone or to diminish anyone. They are made for the overall development of the country."

PM Modi Slams 'North-South Divide' Remarks

PM Modi slammed DMK and Congress leaders' 'North-South divide' remarks stating that viewing India as different units is a result of "mindlessness" regarding India. "Which part of India has the most number of villages associated with Lord Ram's name? Tamil Nadu...Diversity is our strength, we should celebrate it," he emphasised.

"Bharat ek bahuratna vasundhara hai. India is a country of diversity...Viewing India as different units is a result of mindlessness regarding India. Which part of India has the most number of villages associated with Lord Ram's name? Tamil Nadu...How can you term it a separate (unit)?...There is diversity... Diversity is our strength, we should celebrate it. India is a bouquet where everyone can see their flower. That is the sentiment which should be harboured," he added.
